General MIDI / Sound Canvas MIDI.DAT Patch 1.0
for ORIGIN Systems, Inc. Ultima VI - The False Prophet
======================================================

Background
----------
The ORIGIN Systems, Inc. 1990 release Ultima VI: The False Prophet
for IBM PC/Tandy uses a text file MIDI.DAT for assigning instruments
when "Roland MT-32 / MIDI" has been selected during the game's
installation process. Letting the player to select instruments for
each song in the game is similar than previous Ultimas had on the
Apple ][.

The MIDI.DAT shipped with the game contains instrument selections
for each song for the Roland MT-32 sound module's preset sounds.

About this patch
----------------
MIDI.SC contains instrument selections for the Roland SC-7 sound
module. The selection of instruments has been done by manually
comparing both MT-32 and SC-7 sound module patch lists and
carefully selecting similar sounding instruments. Some artistic
freedom has taken place in some cases to preserve the original
MT-32 song.

The SC-7 is a General MIDI compatible device so this "patch"
should be compatible with any General MIDI device. For optimal
results, any early 1990s Sound Canvas should do.

As the game only allows changing capital tones, the MT-32/CM-32L
instruments on, for example, a SC-55 (or compatible) device were
not available. If you have a Sound Canvas that supports "MT-32
emulation", just use the original MIDI.DAT.

Installation
------------
- Copy MIDI.SC to the game directory (C:\ULTIMA6)
- Backup the original MIDI.DAT
- Copy MIDI.SC as MIDI.DAT
- Run INSTALL.EXE and select "Roland MT-32 / MIDI" for music hardware
- Do a GS or GM Reset on the device (power off-on cycle should do)
- Run the game

Checkout a similar "patch" for the Yamaha FB-01 sound module
(U6MIDFB.ZIP).
